Considered one of the best recreational cities in the United States, Seattle offers a variety of outdoor activities. In Seattle there is fresh and saltwater fishing, scuba diving, swimming, boating, and whitewater rafting on lakes. Hiking and horseback riding can be enjoyed on miles of trails in parks and mountains. Another thing you can do is enjoy skiing and mountain climbing. A popular landmark is the Space Needle. This huge Space Needle is 605 feet tall and has an observation deck so you can view the city, the beautiful Olympic and Cascade Mountains, and the Puget Sound.
If you prefer to live in downtown Seattle, there are condominums, townhomes, and homes for sale which may fit your Seattle real estate needs. There is also Pike Place Market and the Pioneer Square, in the historic district and is close to the waterfront downtown. You can take a trip back to the late 1800's. There are cobblestone streets, restored brick buildings, many of them housing restaurants and shops. A place of interest which is below Pioneer Square is known as the underground city. There are five blocks of storefronts and sidewalks that were standing after the fire of 1889, when the street levels were raised. Microsoft, Nordstrom, Starbucks, and Amazon.com are based here. Seattle is also known as the birthplace of espresso coffee and grunge rock. This area is the home of glass art's Dale Chihuly, baseball's Edgar Martinez, musicians Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Queensryche, Kenny G. and Heart. Bill Gates the software giant, actor Tom Skerritt, maestro Gerard Schwartz, writers Ann Rule, Tom Robbins and Robert Fulghum. Boeing is the largest aerospace company located in Seattle. The city's economy is based on advanced technology in computer software, the manufacture of transportation equipment, food processing, forest products, medical equipment, biotechnology, electronics, and environmental engineering. With all of the transportation network of freeways, airport, ferry system, railroad, and port facilities, Seattle is the principal trade, financial, distribution, and services center for the Northwest. Tourism continues to be a vital part of the city's economy. Seattle is the only city in the Northwest to support professional teams in all three major sports. The Seattle Seahawks who play at Qwest field, The Seattle Mariners play at Safeco field which has a retractable roof, and The SuperSonics, Basketball team, have their games in the Key Arena in the Seattle Center.
